Morrison to Receive Endorsement from Leading Gun Control Organization
DEERFIELD, IL – Democratic candidate for state Senate Julie Morrison will receive the Brady PAC of Illinois’s endorsement. The endorsement press conference will take place on Wednesday, July 25th at 11 a.m. at Jewett Park, located at 836 Jewett Park Rd, Deerfield.
“Our community and our state need better gun control laws. In Springfield, I will advocate to reform the broken FOID card system and stand up against concealed carry legislation,” Morrison said. “Guns are a divisive issue in our state but I am sure we can all agree that dangerous people should not have access to firearms.”
Julie Morrison is seeking to replace retiring state Senator Susan Garrett. The 29th District will cover parts of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Forest, and Lake Bluff. In June, Morrison signed the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence’s statement of principle. The principle asks for candidates to endorse the principle that convicted felons, convicted domestic abusers, terrorists, and people found to be dangerously mentally ill should not be allowed to buy, own, or carry a gun.
“I respect the rights of hunters and sportsmen, but there are extremely dangerous proposals being pushed in Springfield by the NRA and other pro-gun organizations,” Morrison said. “Our community does not want concealed weapons in our parks nor does it want violent citizens to have access to fully automatic weapons. I am proud to receive the endorsement of Brady PAC of Illinois, who supports keeping our community safe through common sense gun control laws.”
