Bannockburn Police Blotter: Vending Machine Damaged, Possible Theft

The following arrest information was supplied by the Bannockburn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A vending machine at the LaQuinta Inn & Suites may have been tampered with and robbed between 3 p.m. July 15 and 9 a.m. July 16, according to a Bannockburn Police report.

An employee of the inn told police she discovered metal shavings near the machine and noticed the key lock appeared damaged, according to the report.

As the employee removed a trash bag near the machine, she felt it was heavier than usual, according to the report. Opening it, she found a black metal box. “The item looked like it might be the collection box for any money placed in the machine for the purchase of soda products,” the report said.

Given the amount of noise that is made when a vending machine lock is drilled out, and the amount of time it takes, one just has to wonder if this was an inside job.
