Deerfield High School tennis standouts Jason Brown and Toby Ma won their three opening round matches in the State Tournament Thursday at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights.
The top seeded Brown, who placed third last year, stopped Matt Bisbee of Chicago Marist, 7-5, 6-1, in the first round before breezing past Nate Campanile of Grayslake North, 6-0, 6-2.

In the third round, Brown dropped the first set against Brandon Metzler of Rockford Auburn before taking control in the next two sets, 6-3, 6-0, to advance to the fourth round.
Ma, who is seeded fifth through eighth, had an easy time with Carson Burke of Prospect in the opening round, 6-2, 6-0. His second round match against Bobby Alter of St. Ignatius was closer as he won 6-3, 6-2. In the third round he disposed of New Trier’s Rob Jacobson, 6-3, 6-2.
Brown meets Sam Hoagland of Glenbrook South in a fourth round match today. A victory puts him in the quarterfinals later today. Ma will face Jeremy Dixon of Oak Park in his fourth round match.
The Warriors stand in 12th place in the team standings after the first day with 12 points. Brown and Mar are the only Deerfield players in the tournament. Hinsdale Central is in first place with 24 points.
