Caucus Deadline Set Nov. 7

People considering a run for mayor of Deerfield or Village Board of Trustees must submit application for caucus endorsement by Nov. 7.

 

While the nation’s attention is focused on Tuesday’s Presidential election as well as races for Congress, the Illinois General Assembly and county-wide offices, there is an important deadline the next day for Deerfield’s April 2 municipal contest.

Through nominating petitions are not due until Dec. 24, People who wish to run for mayor of Deerfield or the Village Board of Trustees and want the backing of the caucus must submit applications by Nov. 7. All candidates will be interviewed by the caucus Nov. 13 or 14.

Three trustees—Alan Farkas, Mary Oppenheim and Barbara Struthers—and Mayor Harriet Rosenthal are up for reelection. Rosenthal, Oppenheim, Struthers and Farkas told Patch they are all running for reelection.

Nominating petition packets are available at the Deerfield Village Hall. Applications for consideration by the caucus can be obtained at the Village Hall, the Deerfield Public Library, the Patty Turner Center, the West Deerfield Township Office, the Sachs Recreation Center or on line.

I would be very interested to hear from those up for reelection. Specifically, what is their plan to stop the bleeding and attract new businesses to Deerfield, where those new business actually contribute to the tax base.
