Deerfield’s annual Fourth of July festivities started with a bang at Brickyards Park Sunday evening, with a huge crowd once again showing up to claim a picnic spot on the lawn ahead of the 9:15 fireworks display.

Several organizations were on hand to serve up goodies and the Fire Department brought along a fire truck not only for safety purposes but also for fun. Kids were invited to jump on board for a moment of pretend and a few pictures for mom and dad.

The event kicks off an annual celebration that takes place mainly on Monday. Festivities include a pancake breakfast, bike parade, dog show, carnival rides at Jewett Park, a concert at Village Hall and the noon parade.

Lawn chairs were already placed along Waukegan and Deerfield Roads Sunday night in anticipation of the parade.
