From the traditional Irish soda bread to a custom designed pot of gold cake, Deerfields provides an array of cakes, cookies, breads and more to add to a St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The soda bread is a special favorite.

“Instead of yeast as the leavening agent, baking soda is used giving it a different texture and flavor,” Jacki Schmitt, one of the owners, said. It is also flavored with raisins and caraway.

One of the more elaborate creations is a round layer cake with green icing and a large chocolate frosted pot topped with gold coins known as the pot of gold cake. “We thought a big pot of gold cake would be good topped with butter cream coins on top,” Schmitt said.

Other holiday items include Irish soda muffins, lucky emerald bread, emerald bagels and a shamrock coffee cake.
