The Deerfield Park District is looking for a king and anyone can audition for the role.

The Park District’s Deerfield Family Theater begins casting for “The King and I” August 27 at the Jewett Park Community Center and one role producer Susan Rodando and director Stephen Genovese have to fill is the King of Siam, today’s Thailand.

Auditions are open to everyone. Adults and high school students will try out starting at 6 p.m. August 27 and 28 with children getting their chance August 29. Players in fourth through sixth grade should arrive at 6:30 p.m. and at 8 p.m. for people in grades 7 and 8.

Children not yet in high school must live within the Deerfield Park District boundaries or attend school in Deerfield.

Everyone who wants to participate must bring sheet music and shoes comfortable for dancing. Those who make the first cut will be asked to attend call backs at 6:30 p.m. August 30.

The performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8, 10, 16 and 17, 1 p.m. Nov. 10 and 17 as well as 2 p.m. Nov. 11 and 18. All shows will be at Caruso Middle School.
