More than the food will bring people to Deerfield’s Farmer’s Market when it opens for the season at 7 a.m. Saturday in the commuter parking lot at the corner of Deerfield Road and Robert York Avenue.
The market will be open from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 13.
With 29 food vendors plying their wares, there will be music and opportunities for local not for profit civic groups to let people know about them, according to event organizer Joan Reed. The Farmer’s Market is sponsored by the Village.
“Approximately one third of the vendors will be selling fruits and vegetables”, Reed said. “There will also be a cheese vendor, meat and eggs, fresh cut flowers, potted plants, baked goods, a gluten free baking vendor and dog treats.”
There have been gluten free venders in the past, but the baker is returning this year after an absence. “We like to offer baked goods for people who have allergies,” Reed said.
Also new this year will be a vendor selling tacos and salsa as well as another with frozen yogurt. Coffee is on the agenda as well. “They’ll be fresh roasted coffee,” Reed said. “You’ll be able to buy it by the cup.” There will be crepes too.
Throughout the year there will be special events and opportunities. Reed explained different types of music will be featured each week such as folk and “easy pop” as well as cooking lessons from different teachers from the area.
“Jennifer Noone, the cooking instructor at Patty Turner (Center) will be there one week,” Reed said. “She’s fabulous.”
A highlight later in the summer will be the annual grill fest. “We’ll grill up the corn and give it away for free,” Reed said.
