Melissa Hafner of Deerfield is the winner of Patch’s Summer’s Last Hurrah Contest giving her $250 worth of gift certificates to use with five different Deerfield merchants.

“I never win anything,” Hafner said when she got the call from Patch Friday. “I just took the picture at the Glencoe beach this week. This has been a great summer and I love reading Deerfield Patch.”

Hafner was one of seven winners of individual contests held by Patch sites in Deerfield, Highland Park, Winnetka-Glencoe, Wilmette-Kenilworth, Evanston, Glenview and Northbrook.

The grand prize winner of a $750 gift package of a $500 Target gift certificate and a Great America outing is Saulie of Evanston.

The winning picture came from the Glencoe beach as Hafner snapped a photo of two of her three daughters; Abby, 7, and Jessica, 5. Missing were the photographer, Hafner herself, her husband Ethan and 18-month old Molly.

In all, 21 people submitted pictures to Deerfield Patch for a chance to win. The shots ranged from five at a beach to ones taken at parks and one with a girl holding an ice cream cone. Patch thanks all the participants.

The Hafner family will now enjoy spending $50 each at Il Forno Pizza & Pasta, Just Between Friends, Guys & Co., Deerfield Cyclery and Office Max.
