Have You Seen Sunil Tripathi?

The 22-year-old Brown University student was last seen March 16, 2013, in Providence, RI. He is six feet tall and weighs about 130 pounds, and was wearing blue jeans, a black ski jacket, glasses, and a Philadelphia Eagles hat.

Editor's Note: Sunil Tripathi's family sent this to Patch and we are posting it at their request. The search for Sunil Tripathi was focused around Providence, RI, where he was last seen. Police have recently extended their search to the surrounding states, including and was recently extended to surrounding states, including Connecticut. Here is the statement from the Tripathi family: 

Authorities, family, and friends are searching for a 22-year-old Brown University student. Sunil Tripathi was last seen Saturday morning on Brown campus on the East Side of Providence at around 11:00 am. He was wearing a pair of blue jeans, a black Eastern Mountain Sports ski jacket, glasses, and a Philadelphia Eagles wool hat. He is six feet tall and weighs 130 pounds.

Family and friends are working with the Providence Police and the Brown University Department of Public Safety to find Sunil. The FBI has joined the greater Providence community to assist in the investigation. We are focusing on the greater Providence area, where flyers have been posted and media has dedicated extensive press coverage. The search is expanding outside of Providence to Boston, Connecticut, New York, and Philadelphia. Family and friends are grateful to all those assisting in this search for Sunil.

Momentum in the search is growing. Former and current classmates, friends, extended family, the loving Brown community and the larger Providence community and law enforcement all continue to mobilize. Please join us and spread the word, post flyers, and look for updates on a public Facebook page, “Help Us Find Sunil Tripathi.”  In the past 24 hours, more than 30,000 have joined us to view or repost these search pages.

Sunil grew up in Radnor, Pennsylvania and has been living in Providence since 2008. He is a talented musician, a saxophonist, a philosophy major, a critical thinker, and a kind quiet son and brother.  We miss his warm smile and generous gentle spirit so very much. Your help and prayers to find him mean so much.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Brown University is encouraging the community to join search efforts for missing Brown University student Sunil Tripathi, who was last seen in the campus area on Saturday morning, March 16.  Information, updates, and ways to help are available on the Facebook page “Help Us Find Sunil Tripathi, ” where more than 50,000 people have visited. The Twitter account "@findingsunny" is also available to share information. 

Sunil Tripathi was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black Eastern Mountain Sports ski jacket, glasses, and a Philadelphia Eagles wool hat.  He is six feet tall and weighs 130 pounds.  Tripathi, the youngest brother and son of three, all of whom attended Brown University, was on approved leave from Brown. 

The missing person investigation is being led by the Providence Police Department with the full cooperation of Brown University Department of Public Safety and University staff.  Over the last six days, the search has been focused on the greater Providence area, where flyers have been distributed and physical searches of many city neighborhoods conducted. The search is expanding outside of Providence to Boston, Connecticut, New York, and Philadelphia. Classmates, friends, and others in the Brown community and the larger Providence community and law enforcement continue to mobilize.

"Our concerns are first and foremost with Sunil and his family," said Margaret Klawunn, vice president for student life and campus services.  "We are hopeful that by encouraging the Brown community to help spread the word that Sunil will be located." 

Tripathi grew up in Bryn Mawr Pennsylvania and has been living in Providence since 2008.  He is a philosophy major at Brown and a talented saxophonist.
