Man Arrested for Sawing Through Neighbor’s Door

The following incident was reported by the Deerfield Police Department.

responded to the 1100 block of Osterman Ave. on March 14 in response to a resident allegedly sawing through his neighbor’s front door.

The victim told officers she heard some commotion outside but initially thought it was someone doing yard work. That’s when she says she “observed a chainsaw coming through her front door” and started to scream. 

The resident told officials she grabbed her dogs and jumped off her apartment’s balcony on the second floor.

When officers arrived, the woman told police she thought her neighbor, who lived in the apartment below hers, was responsible for the damage.

When officers knocked on 28-year-old Lukasz Strama’s door they say they instantly smelled engine fumes in his apartment. Police also located a chainsaw and hatchet.

Strama’s 5-year-old daughter was sitting in the apartment at the time of the search.

The Deerfield resident was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and criminal damage to property. Strama's court date has been set for April 7 in Lake County. 

His daughter was taken to the police station and handed over to her grandmother.
