Police Chase Ends in Arrest

Deerfield, Highland Park and Illinois State Police assist after Chicago man is clocked at 103 miles per hour on Highway 41.

A Chicago man driving in excess of 100 miles per hour on Highway 41 in Highland Park today set in motion a search effort by Highland Park, Deerfield and Illinois State Police, according to Deputy Highland Park Police Chief George Pfutzenreuter.

Joshua Klein, 21, of Chicago was arrested by Highland Park police today for fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and speeding, according to Pfutzenreuter. Klein was later transferred to the custody of Morton Grove police because of an outstanding warrant for theft.

All of the offenses are misdemeanors except speeding which is a traffic offense, according to Pfutzenreuter.

Shortly after 8 a.m. a witness in the vicinity of Deerfield and Waukegan Roads saw an Illinois State Police helicopter “hovering low” over the downtown Deerfield business district.

Just before 7 a.m. a Highland Park police officer clocked Klein driving southbound on Highway 41 between Old Elm and Half Day Roads at 103 miles per hour, according to Pfutzenreuter. The speed limit there is 50. Police gave chase and lost sight of Klein’s vehicle on Park Avenue West west of Skokie Valley Road.

The vehicle was later spotted in the vicinity of Cloverdale and Richfield Avenues near Mooney Park in Highland Park where Klein fled on foot, according to Pfutzenreuter.

“We instituted a search and issued a reverse 911 call (to inform people in the area of the police activity),” Pfutzenreuter said. “The Deerfield police helped us and the Illinois State Police sent up a helicopter.” Klein was apprehended by police on foot.

Klein was released on bond and transferred to the custody of the Morton Grove Police because of an outstanding theft warrant, according to Pfutzenreuter. Klein will appear in Lake County Court at 9 a.m. Dec. 7 in Waukegan.

Hey Josh, hate to be the one too say it, but your an idiot. What were you thinking about when this was all going on? That you were actually going to get away? Just for next time Josh, you ever see those cameras that are mounted on top of almost every traffic light? I'm not exactly sure what their purpose is, but hopefully It's to catch morons like you who put local law enforcement and innocent citizens in harms way so you can TRY to avoid some charges. Grow up and pull over. Oh, by the way, does anyone know how much it costs to fly a state police chopper into the area to apprehend a moron like Josh? Does he have to pay for that? Just curious. Let me know if I'm being too hard on josh.

Well, the name-calling isn't really needed, but to your comment about the "cameras that are mounted on top of almost every traffic light" - those are emergency signal sensors. They detect the strobe light mounted on fire trucks and police cars and change the signal pattern to green from the direction where the emergency vehicle is. They are not cameras per se.

Ed Brill, sorry to bother you. I wasn't talkin about those light looking things that detect emergency vehicles directly above the stop light. I was talking about those actual cameras that are mounted on all four main posts of almost every major intersection in this area. Also, those black dome hanging things that you see. I only assumed those were cameras and not emergency vehicle detectors. Sorry for the mix up. Josh, sorry again that I called you a moron.......and an idiot.

Those black domes are traffic cameras (go to the map at lakecountypassage(dot)com and you can see traffic pictures. Refreshes every 5 minutes).

I'm fairly certain that these are just still cameras, though I'm not positive.

Now, if you're headed southbound on 41 at Park or westbound on Park at 41... there are red light cameras at these intersections. You may have seen the really bright FLASH when people don't make it through the light in time or try to turn right on red onto 41 (which is illegal, despite there being a dedicated turn lane).
