Relay For Life Heats Up This Week

Fundraiser set Monday; Paint the Town Purple slated Saturday.

The Deerfield-Highland Park Relay For Life is less than a month away and two events to raise money and create awareness will take place this week.

The Relay is scheduled from 6 p.m. June 7 to 6 a.m. June 8 at the Deerfield High School’s Adams Field track.

An all you can eat fundraiser will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Italian Kitchen with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Relay For Life. The event was organized by Michel and Angela Butera who are honoring his mother, Joan Butera, who died 10 years ago from cancer.

“Our goal is to encourage community members to join forces and help celebrate more birthdays,” Angela Butera said. “We have all been touched by cancer in one form or another.”

The other event is Paint the Town Purple from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Those who want to participate can meet at the downtown Deerfield Starbucks.
