Sacks Named Athlete of the Week

Warrior basketball player becomes fourth Deerfield athlete in eight weeks to receive the honor to keep string going.

 with Sacks receiving 7,591 to earn the honor. Since Nov. 28, four Warriors have been nominated and all have won. was selected after becoming state champion, was honored for solid play on the basketball court and received the accolade for his wrestling achievements.

in the Warriors’ 67-52 non-conference victory over Wheeling. The senior had four points in the fourth quarter to lead Deerfield in a late-game comeback.

The Deerfield basketball star received more than 7,500 votes, or about 48 percent.

Mychael Henley, senior, basketball guard, Niles North – Henley scored 23 points and collected five rebounds in the Vikings’ 67-52 win over Uplift last week. The senior guard had missed much of the early season with a wrist injury.

Jack Mangan, junior, swimming, New Trier – Mangan was part of two meet records at the Evanston Invitational last week. He set a meet record in the 100-yard backstroke (51.64 seconds) and swam the backstroke leg on the Trevians’ record-setting 200 medley relay. New Trier finished in 1:36.05

Justin Busiel, junior, basketball, Glenbrook South – Busiel scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds in Glenbrook South’s 57-36 victory over Niles West. The win was the Titans’ first conference victory in the Central Suburban League South and was the first game the Titans played without senior Matt Powers (wrist injury).

Adam Chick, senior, basketball,  – Chick had 17 points for the Spartans against Loyola, helping Glenbrook North to a big non-conference victory. The senior also chipped in seven rebounds and six assists in the 59-41 win.
