SOCCER VIDEO: Warriors Rely on Youth, Offensively & Defensively
Two sophomores are leading the way for the Deerfield soccer team this season; one is scoring goals and the other is stopping them.
Deerfield girls soccer coach Rich Grady has been trying to get his defense ready before the conference schedule begins the last week of April, but it hasn't been easy.
"From last years team we graduated an all-state goalkeeper," Grady said, listing the changes that have been made on defense this year. "We graduated a four-year starter who was a sweeper, another four-year starter who was a defender and a three-year starter who was a defender. So it's new combinations at the back and we're figuring out how to play together."
Replacing all-state goalie Emily Gilbert is sophomore Skyller Hughes. She's posted four shutout wins this season and the video to the right shows her athletic potential.
Offensively, the Warriors are also led by sophomore Samara Haas. She leads the team with five goals on the season.
