Tie Goes to the Warriors for CSL Title

Giant and Warrior soccer teams tie, 2-2, as Deerfield edges Highland Park for league crown by one point in standings.

The Final Score:        Deerfield 2, Highland Park

Warriors Star Performers:  Emily Kellow scored a goal and chipped in an assist while Hannah Rosin added a score. Bailey Bradford kept the potential winning goal out of the net.

Giants Star Performers:       Keeley Dee and Samantha Schwartz each had goals for Highland Park.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Amanda Kellow dished out an assist as Leah Heller, Kerry Glass and Trishie Schweinfurth provided solid defense.

Other Notable Giant Performances:            Stephanie Bailen added an assist on Dee’s goal.

Who’s Next:   Both the Warriors and Giants play Thursday in a Central Suburban League crossover game with opponent, time and place to be determined. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield secured the Central Suburban League North Division title with a 3-0-2 record for 10 points finishing a notch ahead of Highland Park which earned nine points with its 2-0-3 mark. The Warriors sped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half before the Giants narrowed the lead to 2-1 just before intermission. Schwartz broke free with 30 minutes to play to score from 40 yards out. She nearly won the game for Highland Park in the final seconds but a save by Bradford along with defensive blocks by Glass, Heller and Schweinfurth preserved the championship for Deerfield.
