Thousands raised for Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook.
More than 70 basketball teams participated in the second annual Crossover 4 Cancer basketball tournament, an event created by a group of Deerfield High School students.
The 2-on-2 teams played at Mitchell Park, with the championship round held this weekend. Organizers Jack Carney and Mario Guagliardo said the event raised $6,000 this year. The money will be donated to the Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook.
The organizing committee of Carney, Guagliardo, Bryan Linton, Drew Reichenbach, Justin Gersowsky and Bill Froemming consisted of graduating seniors, so the group trained a group of underclassmen to take over next year’s coordination.
Taking over the reigns next year are Shane Mulhern, Jordan Cloch, Ross Lehrman and Max Mazzetta.
