Deerfield charity event draws hundreds to take on forward Luol Deng and some of his teammates.

NBA star Luol Deng stepped off the court and into Deerfield on Sunday for the 2011 “Game and Give” charity tournament at .

Hundreds turned out to raise money for the Luol Deng Foundation, a nonprofit that helps improve the lives of refugees in Sudan.

“Luol is just a really good dude and what he stands for everybody should stand for,” Bulls player Kyle Korver said about his teammate at the event. “He [Deng] uses this stage that he has for really good purposes.”

At the age of 5, Deng was a refugee when his parents fled to Egypt in eluding Sudan's civil war. The family eventually settled in Britain. Now that he’s an NBA star, the Northbrook resident is trying to give back. His foundation provides funding for sports and education programs for other refugees in Africa.
