Warrior Gymnasts Take 4th in League Meet

Boys' track team finishes fourth at Spartan Relays.

April 26 

A true twin effort paved the way for the Deerfield High School gymnastics team’s fourth place finish in the Central Suburban Conference Meet Friday at Glenbrook North. 

The twins—Jeff and Brian Spinello—are identical Warriors who finished fifth (Jeff) and sixth (Brian) in the all around competition while adding a number of other individual medals.

Gymnastics 

The Final Score:        1. Glenbrook North 150.7, 2. Glenbrook South 145.35, 3. Niles West 143.65, 4. Deerfield 131.9, 5. Niles North 121.4, 6. Highland Park 115.75, 7. Evanston 91.5, 8. Maine East 76.8, 9. Maine South 68.9.

Warriors Star Performers:  Jeff Spinello was fifth in the all around competition (45.75) as well as second on floor exercise (9.4), sixth in the vault (9.05) and high bars (7.4) and 10th on the rings (6.3). Brian Spinello was sixth in the all around (45.3) on the strength of fourth on floor (9.3), fifth on the parallel bars (9.0), eighth on the high bar (6.2) and 11th in the vault (8.6).

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Alex Cimgalia took 10th in the all around event (38.95) and seventh on parallel bars (8.8). Nick Laporte was eighth on the rings (6.9).

Who’s Next:   The Warriors compete in the Sectional Meet at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mundelein. 

Boys’ Track 

The Final Score:        Deerfield finished fourth out of 10 teams in the Spartan Relays. 

Warriors Star Performers:   Shai Farhi, Donald Middlebrook, Patrick Brunk and Alex Gold teamed to win the distance middle relay. Middlebrook then joined with Brett Freedberg, Matt Gibson and Aaron Horwitz to take the pole vault. 

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Horwitz earned a second as part of a quartet with Chris Douglas, Joe Newhall and Matt Pigott in the 110-meter low hurdle shuttle relay. David Lebovitz, Casey Spiwak, Patrick Johnson and John Phipps were runner up in the discus. Lebovitz and Johnson also teamed with Sam Friedland and Dominic Dibenedetto to take third in the shot put. The long jump team of Connor Oriot, Sam Modro, Alex Williams and Garrett Ramm placed third while the quartet of Charlie Kogan, Ramm, Pigott and Jack Sherman did the same in the triple jump. 

Who’s Next:   The Warriors compete in the Lake County Invitational Friday at Lake Zurich.
