The Eggshell, with it's great coffee and grilled whole wheet pita with a little butter and fresh preserves is awesome. The food is great breakfast or lunch. The Rhapsody is a close second with great food, friendly service and a really nice owner. I could sit with a pot of coffee for hours reading the paper and working on my laptop and they don't mind

I'll bet you never asked the server if they mind?

Why would you describe Rhapsody as a "joint"? Kevin's is a joint...a place for a local unmannerly clientele to hang out while their children run wild and Kevin plays clown teacher baby sitter. Rhapsody is well maintained and the owner works harder than anyone in town put out a consistently edible fare and satisfy his customers. Unfortunately the breakfasts at all of these places can't match the stick to your ribs quality I turn out in my kitchen. If you can't put a simple fried egg and bacon sandwich on the menu, you don't know anything about how America in the heartland grew up eating breakfast. You can get over-sized pancakes and cold oatmeal anywhere. Sysco whole wheat pita and jelly? Puhlese!

Kevin plats "clown teacher baby sitter"? Maybe you should learn a little bit more about Kevin's Place. First of all, everything on the menu is incredible. Second of all, every single family that comes in there feels instantly like family, and that is because of Kevin's incredible and warming personality. The kids there are amazing and absolutely adore him, and if you think the only way to make a restaurant win is by putting down Kevin, who happens to be one of the most amazing and caring people in the world, then you need to find another hobby and another person to pick on.

Kevin's place is listed twice. Instead of two Kevin's (I agree about the children being out of control in that place) why not list Eggsperience in Bannockburn? Same zip code. They have large portions, okay service and a Yankee's fan as an owner. Other than that, the Bannockburn Green Omelet is great! Next, I would vote for Rhapsody. Good food, service and a really nice owner. Local Deerfield too.

It seems as though some of you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, maybe not morning people...Rhapsody is good, but Kevin's Place gets my vote for thier omelets and short stacks. Consistency is their short order cooks forte, always fresh and delicious. As many times as I've eaten there, never noticed the 'children running wild'. Guess I'm just with better company.

Run wild?!? There's no room--it's always packed! We wouldn't go anywhere besides Kevin's. My kids are treated like real people there and Kevin is no slouch on manners with them, either. Plus, the food is fab!

Children are what they are, and if in expressing themselves they are unable discern how to behave in order to be considerate of other people ... in a place with no room... it's because you go there, and many others deplore that environment and stay away.

Kevin's manners are not the problem. It's the manners of the kids who share their incubation of entitlement with everyone that is the problem. I've had breakfast there all the way back to when it was Harry's. It now caters to kids and that's fine, just not for me. Kevin is very nice and has his fans. I go for lunch and fewer kids makes for a more enjoyable experience. The list was limiting, but Rhapsody got my vote. You can see out of some nice windows in the dining room too.

Kevin's Place not only has the most incredible food, but the best company. From the first time you eat there, you are instantly family with both Kevin, the staff, and all the other people eating there. Everyone is welcome and Kevin treats each person like he would his own family. There is nowhere else I'd rather go than Kevin's Place.

Kevin's Place-- Best food, best environment, best company!

No one cares about their customers like Kevin does! In addition to incredible food...and I mean EVERYTHING on that menu...Kevin is simply the best. He knows everyone by name, treats everyone kindly and equally, and makes everyone feel good. We love you and your restaurant, Kevin! There is no place like it.

Kevin's is the go to place for my family. When our grown children return home to visit, the one place they MUST go to is Kevin's for the outstanding food and warm and caring welcome they get from Kevin and the rest of the staff. Deerfield would not be the same without Kevin's Place!

Kevin's place is the best! The Cherry Pit and even further back, Harry's grill, were representative of the Best of Deerfield. Times change, people move in an out. Restaurants come and go. You can get great food at all these places. However, nothing replaces an institution so dedicated to the community as Kevin's Place!

Rhapsody is the best. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Kevin's Place is far too chaotic to make it a pleasurable experience.

Everyone’s comments inspired me to take myself out to breakfast (anonymously) in Deerfield the last few days. I won’t say where I’ve been but I’ve enjoyed my meals.

Have you gone to your favorite place’s listing on Patch and written a review? This is part of the winning formula along with the poll. So, click the listing by the name in the story and review away. And keep up with the comments, they are the final tiebreaker.

Kevin's Place and Rhapsody are both tops for me. Great food; great places to run into friends and neighbors, not pretentious and owners and staff who are friendly and caring. Can't beat Mickey Mouse pancakes and Chocolate Milk Kevin Style but the south of the border styled fair at Rhapsody is top notch too. I say we're lucky to have them both and no reason to pick one over the other.

Kevin's is cold and bland kalifornia cuisine, unruly kids, rude parents, and village pooh-bahs violating sunshine laws. Rhapsody is quiet, mannerly, adult friendly. Sadly...McDonald's is probably as good as it gets for tasty breakfast meals.
