Pets and Pollen Problems

Pollen can make pets itchy and scratchy, too: In fact, skin allergies are the No. 1 reason for dog visits to the vet (No.5 for cats), and in warmer months, cases spike. Inflamed skin can prompt animals to lick their feet and scratch their skin and ears, says Shasta Lake, Calif-Based Nancy Scanlon, D.V.M., C.V.A., M.S.F.P., executive director of the American Holistic Veterinary Medicine Association. This can lead to open wounds, yeast infections and hair loss, particularly for cats. Try feeding fluffy and Fido ¼ teaspoon to 1 teaspoon (depending on the animal’s size) of local honey daily; the bits of pollen in it can help desensitize your pet,
