Fire Department Offers Fun, Gets Serious

Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Protection District celebrates 100 years with open house. Former chiefs are honored while children have fun.

From a United States Congressman to scores of Deerfield children, several hundred people gathered to honor 100 years of firefighting and have some fun Saturday at the Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Protection District’s main station on Waukegan Road.

A memorial was dedicated to former Chiefs James Quinn and Jack Gagne as Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) recounted some history before Quinn, Gagne and current Chief Ian Kazian cut the ribbon.

Before and after the formal ceremony, the public had the opportunity to tour the facilities, inspect the equipment and ride in a fire truck. Children got the chance to try out a small fire hose and put out a make believe blaze.
