Tesla Opens North Shore Dealership

American luxury manufacturer opens world's first full sales, service and super charging center for electric cars in Highland Park. Take a test drive with Patch.

The world’s first Tesla Motors’ combination sales, service and supercharging center becomes Highland Park’s newest business when it opens at 9 a.m. Friday at 1200 Old Skokie Valley Road.

Tesla makes one vehicle right now, the Model S, a five-passenger sedan which can become a seven-person car when the trunk is converted. It accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds, according to spokesperson Alexis Georgeson.

Prices start at $62,400 with a range of 208 miles before recharging is necessary. A $10,000 upgrade yields a 265 mile range. “We recommend you install a 240 (volt plug),” Georgeson said. “It recharges in eight hours.”

The supercharger at the dealership restores full power in 20 minutes. Tesla has a network around the country and is expanding it on a regular basis, according to Georgeson. The charge is free to Tesla owners.

Patch will have a video tour of the car and dealership next week.
