Village Removes Downtown Snow Friday Night

Patch is also keeping tabs on Monday's School schedule.

All snow in downtown Deerfield and Village owned parking lots will be removed Friday night.
All snow in downtown Deerfield and Village owned parking lots will be removed Friday night.

Now that Deerfield’s Public Works Department has spent three days of around the clock snow removal from the roadways, it will turn its attention to making downtown Deerfield easier to navigate for pedestrians.

“We’ll start after 9 p.m. and (the downtown sidewalks) will be clear by Saturday morning,” Andrew Lichterman, the assistant to the Village Manager, said. Both sidewalk and street plows will be used to complete the task. Village owned parking lots will also be cleared at that time.

With that project, the piles of snow—some more than a foot high—between parked cars and downtown sidewalks will be gone when people arrive to shop and dine Saturday morning, according to Lichterman.

With temperatures not expected to make it above zero Monday, Patch is closely monitoring what the local schools will do with their schedule. We will publish what we know as soon as we learn it.

I know it's a thankless job. But, I was really disappointed in the removal all along Warrington & Warwick (in the initial storm). They're secondary arteries & went virtually ignored. Uptown wasn't very good either. I think they do a wonderful, wonderful job - year-round. I'm just disappointed in the work this time. And yes, we do thank them with cookies etc every once in a while.

Really ? I think the Public works crew did an amazing job .., Tom have you ever left Deerfield in a storm and seen what the other community's look like ? Deerfield goes above and beyond . Working endless hours and away from there family's to get the job done. I thank the public works employees

I think they did a great job. My parents live in HP and their street didn't see a plow until 5pm New Year's day.

I said they always do a wonderful job. We call them & thank them after big storms. We bring them cookies. Sometimes when is coming we bring a bunch of nice coffee & snacks & stuff. Do you ever bring them things or even just call & thank them?

Sorry, that was a bit snippy.

I think Deerfield does an awesome, thorough job with the roads. I'm disappointed, however, with the conditions of sidewalks. Are there some sidewalks that the village is responsible for clearing, esp near schools? I don't know the answer to this. I know that shoveling sidewalks is a requested courtesy on the part of homeowners. The aforementioned Warrington & Warwick is an area where I walk daily (as do students when school is in session). More times than not, I shake my head in disbelief at how icy and unsafe the sidewalks are. When you think about it, Deerfield is just not that large an area, and with 6 DPS schools + Holy Cross + DHS, you'd think that residents would be more cognizant of the sheer number of kids on foot. We also have so many dog walkers and runners who are affected.

They did an amazing job!! My only concern every year is the sidewalks that lead to the schools. The kids have to walk on the streets to get to them.

Yes, amazing job. I live across from the library and I heard them removing and beeping well into the 2 am hours. Glad the snow was removed without any respect to the residents in the area and their children trying to sleep.
