If I asked you are you creative what would you say?
No, I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler. You might laugh and put yourself down. If you think you are not creative then you hold back.
You don’t risk sharing your idea because you are afraid someone will laugh at it. Yet maybe your idea is the next innovation that is worth millions.
Sometimes creativity is revealed during tough times. You lose your job and you have to still keep your family clothed and fed. At the last minute your plane is canceled and you have to skype your presentation.
As parents you are always being asked to tap into your creativity on rainy days. You get sick and traditional medicine isn’t working and you research alternatives. That is creativity.
Steve Jobs said that Apple flourished because of the diverse interest and skills of its team: historians, musicians, artists who were also excellent computer scientist. In a 2005 study by Gilson, Mathieu, Shalley and Ruddy found that creative teams were more efficient and performed better.
