Prom After Party
Delivers the Fun for 400+ Teens

For the seventh year in a row, Deerfield High School seniors were treated to the
“ultimate basement party. Immediately following their traditional formal prom
on May 17, nearly 430 teens poured into the Sachs Recreation Center in
Deerfield and within minutes, went from red-carpet glamour to t-shirts and
tennis shoes. For a steady three hours – from midnight until 3:00 a.m. – the
teens enjoyed a constant stream of pure, unadulterated fun. Giant inflatable
obstacle courses, 3-on-3 volleyball and basketball tournaments, casino games,
ping pong, air hockey, table games and Twister all made for a lively mix;
karaoke, a photo booth, a magician, and a live DJ kept things jumping, and
teen-friendly treats, including pizza, hot wings, DQ ice cream, and gourmet
coffee drinks kept the kids’ energy levels high. To top things off, some lucky
teens went home with amazing prizes, including tickets to Lollapalooza, and two
32”-inch flat screen TVs!

An event like this
doesn’t just happen. For months, a small group of hardworking parent volunteers
toiled to make this year’s Prom After Party happen – not just so the kids could
have an unforgettable evening of fun, but also to ensure their safety on a
night when, as any parent knows, anything can happen. These parents deserve
special recognition for their efforts: co-chairs, Janice Merkin and Stephanie Fontenot, past co-chair Sue
Beauseigneur, and Steering Committee members Andi Berkowitz,
Andrea Brown, Gayle Byck, Lori Cloch, Marsha Gutman, Lisa Haas, Pam Katz, Ann
Mott, Peggy Pattis, Susan Reid, Barbara Roman, Sue Spinello, Gail Levine, Susan
Reingold, Leslie Goldberger, and Cindy Rubin. The support of DHS Principal Audris
Griffith and Student Activities Director Brian Verisario was also invaluable.

Countless thanks to
the co-chairs and the steering committee members, and a huge thank you as well
to the dozens of other parent volunteers -- too many to mention; to the more
than 100 community sponsors and donors; and to everyone involved with the Sachs
Recreation Center and the Deerfield Park District for helping to make the 2014
DHS After Party such a success. We are both humbled and proud that the Prom
After Party is affiliated with our organization.
