The Center for Enriched Living Hosts Inaugural Firefighter Challenge Community Day

The Center for Enriched Living is thrilled to host its inaugural Firefighter Challenge Community Day in conjunction with the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Department on Saturday, June 21 from 11am – 3pm at its facility in Riverwoods.  The Center for Enriched Living (CEL) is a non-profit organization providing opportunities for individuals – of all ages throughout Chicagoland – with a wide range of intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and others, to create meaningful relationships, achieve goals and thrive in the community.

This free event provides an opportunity for CEL members and families, neighbors and friends of the organization as well as the entire community to come and learn more about CEL while enjoying food and refreshments, games, music by DJ Ray, in addition to booths from other agencies and organizations.  “We are committed to opening the doors to everyone at CEL,” Executive Director Harriet Levy says. “This event provides a perfect opportunity for people unfamiliar with the organization to find ways to connect – whether it’s a potential member with developmental disabilities, someone in the community looking for ways to get involved to help individuals with developmental disabilities or people in the surrounding area who have seen our sign and have always wondered what we do – this event is for everyone.”

“We’re really excited to partner with the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Department again for Community Day,” adds Director of Program Services, Melissa Juarez-Ehlers.  “With an obstacle course, relay race and fitness challenge, the firemen attending will provide an element of fun for our members as well as the community members who want to participate.”
