The Winter 2014 DYBA Commissioner's Letter

Dear DYBA Friends and Families:

I am pleased to write to you in my first Commissioner’s Letter for the upcoming 2014 DYBA season. I hope you have enjoyed the shoveling and shivering over the past few weeks (or is it months, now?) and consider it a warm sign that the baseball and softball seasons are just around the corner. With this letter I will try and bring you up to speed on a number of the DYBA activities that are taking place even before our kids take to the field.

Registration for House Baseball and Softball is open. To register, go to www.dyba.com. This year we have moved to a new system to streamline and better coordinate all of our activities. This will mean that you will need to register for an account on the new registration system. We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration you may be experiencing. If you have questions or need help with registration, please email our Director of Registration at registration@dyba.com.

DYBA is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization; it does not exist without volunteers. If you would like to serve as a manager or coach, please register to do so when signing up your daughter or son. Many people find donating time to their child’s activities as a great way to give back. Our baseball, softball, Wooden Bat and Warrior Softball Classic committees always welcome new members. As a volunteer led organization anything you can do to help kids get out on the field is important to not only your child but also our community.

The DYBA Baseball and Softball programs are holding a number of winter and preseason clinics and events. I describe them a bit below. For more information and to register check out the DYBA website –www.dyba.com.

DYBA Softball will be hosting a movie and pizza party this Sunday, February 9, at 4 p.m. at Shepard Middle School. The Chicago Bandits, Chicago’s professional women’s fast pitch softball team, will attend, as well. Walk ins are welcome!

House Baseball will be hosting a day of free baseball clinics led by Deerfield High School coaches on Sunday February 23. To register go to DYBA.com.

House Softball will be continuing the long-standing tradition of free clinics. This year members of the Deerfield High School Varsity Softball team will lead them. Softball clinics will be on:

  • Sunday February 23
  • Sunday March 2
  • Sunday March 9
  • Sunday March 16

For information about and to register for DYBA House Baseball and Softball clinics, events and Spring Teams, please email the respective directors at baseball@dyba.com or softball@dyba.com.

Off the field I am proud to announce that DYBA now has in place Concussion and Child Protection policies. Both policies are available on the DYBA website. We want to keep our players safe and the DYBA Board of Directors continues to work to try and make that occur.

Over the late fall you might have seen the upgrades taking place on many of the fields by the Deerfield Park District. Mitchell and Woodland Park baseball and Maplewood softball fields each received improvements thanks to the efforts of the Deerfield Park District. DYBA plays on almost thirty fields in Deerfield and has one of the most vibrant baseball and softball programs in the area. We would be nowhere without the efforts of the Deerfield Park District. DYBA is a Park District affiliate and we work together to provide our players the best possible baseball and softball experiences.

On behalf of the DYBA Board of Directors we look forward to seeing you out on the fields. As always, please feel free to speak with any DYBA Board member or contact me at commissioner@dyba.com, if you have any thoughts, suggestions or questions about our programs.

See you out on the fields!

Lew Bricker

DYBA Commissioner
