Annual Winter Celebration Opens Friday

Activities throughout downtown Deerfield Friday and Saturday include horse drawn sleigh rides, a petting zoo, plenty of refreshments and Santa Claus.

Activities ranging from live entertainment, edible treats and a visit with Santa Claus are only some of the fun at Deerfield’s Annual Winter Celebration Friday and Saturday throughout downtown Deerfield, according to information on the Village’s website.

Events at Village Hall, the Historic Village, Essence Pilates, Deerfield Bank & Trust, Koenig & Strey, the First Presbyterian Church, Jewett Park,Walgreens and Bank Financial from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday kick off the weekend.

Fun continues Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. at First Midwest Bank, Jewett Park, Deerfield Square, Deerfield Village Center, Village Hall and Koenig & Strey. Not all events run all of those hours.

As in past years, horse drawn sleighs will take people from Village Hall to the Historic Village and back Friday. Those journeys will continue Saturday between Deerfield Village Centre and Deerfield Square.

After completing the ride on Friday, there will be hot chocolate, hot cider and other treats at Village Hall and next door at the First Presbyterian Church as well as at Bank Financial. The church will also offer popcorn stringing, cookie decorating, caroling and a holiday market place.

For those wishing a visit with Santa Claus, they will find him at Koenig & Strey between 5 and 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. and three p.m. Saturday.

Deerfield’s merchants will get in on the action Saturday with many at Deerfield Square and Deerfield Village Center giving special offers. In particular, Avenue Fashions will have treats for children, Whole Foods will offer gingerbread house decorating and Walgreens will present a greeting card seminar with hot chocolate and candy.

Anyone in need of a Christmas Tree can visit the Optimist Tree lot Friday or Saturday. For a complete list of all activities, check the Village’s official website.
