Childfree And Loving It, or Completely Missing Out?

Women who choose not to become mothers are finding new paths of acceptance, according to a new article in Time Magazine.

By Marcia Watts Sagendorph

Can a woman be happy, satisfied and successful in life without having kids? Without even wanting kids?

Some women say, no way. That their kids are the best thing that ever happened to them. Other women say, Yes. Absolutely. That being childfree is the best way to go.

A recent Time magazine cover story on "The Childfree Life," by Lauren Sandler looks at the issue. Can a woman have it all if she doesn't want kids?

The article contends that being childfree is a healthy, valid choice. The article is not talking about women who want to be moms but physically can't, but about those who simply choose not to.

The question remains: Is choosing not to have a child OK?

Yes! said Margaret Wheeler Johnson in The Huffington Post article, "The Childfree Are All Right -- Yes, Someone Needed To Say It."

She believes that women who decide not to become mothers can have incredible lives and should not have to justify their choice.

U.S. birthrates have leveled off after a sharp decline in fertility that accompanied the Great Recession, according to the Pew Research Center.

With strong opinions on all sides, tell us what you think. Is being childfree a great way to go? Mothers, are there benefits to having kids that childfree women overlook? Share your views in the Comments section.
