Deerfield Community Band to honor "March King" Saturday.

Fans of the music of John Philip Sousa will be treated to a concert of his work by the Deerfield Community Band under the direction of Art Hildebrand at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Patty Turner Center celebrating the composer’s 158th birthday.

“Join us as the Deerfield Community Band pays tribute to the March King in this glorious and patriotic celebration of timeless marches,” Patty Turner Center Executive Director David Shamrock said in a news release.

Sousa, who was born Nov. 6, 1854, wrote marches including “The Washington Post March,” Semper Fidelis” and “The Stars and Stripe Forever.”
