Deerfield Ranks One of Nation’s Long Commutes

Village comes in 2,264 out of just over 3,000 communities of similar size.

Deerfield may rank very high as a place to live when it comes to things like education and municipal services, but it finishes 2,264 out of 3,012 smaller communities in the country when it comes to commuting times, according to a story last week in the Business Journals

The ranking is based on the statistical abstract of the 2009 American Community Survey which is part of the United States Census Bureau. In all, 3,012 municipalities throughout the country with a population between 10,000 and 50,000 were ranked.

Approximately a quarter (27.81 percent) of Deerfield’s residents commute less than 14 minutes to work while a similar amount (24.00 percent) spend more than 45 minutes getting go and from the job.
