Deerfield Teens Win Chicago Archdiocese Video Contest

A video depicting the importance of Sunday mass created by two teens from Deerfield's Holy Cross Parish was chosen as the $5,000 first place winning entry in a contest co-sponsored by the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Out of 44 films created by 135 teens representing at least 36 parishes in Lake and Cook counties, it was an entry from two Deerfield teens that took top honors in the Archdiocese of Chicago's video contest for the "Year of Sunday Mass" awareness campaign.

"Manisfestation of the Mass," an entry from Matthew Jones, 16 and William Lederer, III, 17, of Deerfield's Holy Cross Parish and School, won a $5,000 prize, which the teens shared, reported the Deerfield Review.

Through the use of scripture and images of services, the winning video shows the important role church can play in the lives of young people.

“Just to win anything is exciting in the first place,” said Lederer in the Deerfield Review. “It was a cool way to push each other to get to mass, and to take that one hour of peace in our week.”

Winners of the video contest, which was co-sponsored by the Archdiocese of Chicago,Mercy Home for Boys and Girls and ACTA: Foundation for Adult Catechetical Teaching Aids received their awards from Francis Cardinal George at last month's Parish Leadership Day.
