Easter Egg Hunt Set Saturday

More than 300 children expected to run for prizes and candy.

More than 300 Deerfield children will be dashing for prizes and plastic Easter Eggs at 10 a.m. Saturday at during the annual Easter Egg Hunt run by the , according to event organizer Mary Robinson.

In the event of unsuitable weather conditions, the hunt will be indoors at the Jewett Park Community Center.

Robinson encourages participants to arrive early and get a good spot at the starting line. “It starts at 10 and is over about 10:01,” said Optimist Mick Buck.

Though Robinson knows it helps for the participants to run quickly after the eggs, she has a few tricks of her own to insure a good time for all.

“They have to be quick so they can get the eggs,” Robinson said. “I keep a little stash so nobody goes home unhappy,” she added so latecomers and those not fast enough to grab eggs will not be left out.

The park will be divided into three sections so children can compete for prizes against their peers. The divisions are up to age 3, from 4 to 6 and over 7. Nearly every egg will have some sort of prize attached to it.

There will be wrapped hard candy sprinkled around the park interspersed with the eggs. When a child opens an egg it will have a piece of candy and a slip of paper indicating the prize won.

“There are two golden eggs (in each age group) with special prizes,” Robinson said. “The others could be ice cream sundaes, pool passes or Frisbees.” Some prizes will be available at the park while others will be claimed at the donating businesses.

Deerfield is very fortunate to have an active and supportive Optimist Club. They do so much for the youth of our community. Your good works are appreciated.
