Cardboard City - Raising Awareness about Homelessness in Lake County

Cardboard City is an event that gives participants the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of homeless people by raising funds and awareness of the harsh conditions that people  endure on a daily basis.  Participants will collect donations to sponsor their "sleeping out" in a box at North Shore Unitarian Church.  The event begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 and ends at 8 a.m. on Sunday, April 17.  We will have a soup kitchen style dinner, a vespers service, and lively discussions and spontaneous entertainment.

Individuals who have participated in Cardboard City in the past have said it was a powerful experience to spend the night outdoors in contemplation of the homeless, an experience that will remain with them for a lifetime.  Individuals who want to help without staying outdoors overnight can provide food, donations, and other volunteer services to help make the event run smoothly.  All donations raised will go to PADS of Lake County which works to combat chronic poverty, welfare dependency, and homelessness among individuals and families; by providing emergency shelter and crisis services throughout northeast Illinois, see their website www.lakecountypads.org for more information.
