Halloween Arrives in Deerfield After Festive Weekend

Village trick or treating runs from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

After a long weekend of anticipation, Halloween has arrived for Deerfield’s children of all ages with the Village’s official trick or treating taking place from 3:30 to 7 p.m. today. 

The weekend included preliminary trick or treating Saturday with downtown merchants and Sunday at Wonder’s grand opening in the Deerbrook Mall as well as the Village’s annual in . 

Deerfield wants everyone to have a good time today. She also wants them to be careful to make sure the holiday is safe as well as fun.

“I wish all Deerfield Trick-or-Treaters lots of safe fun, lots of treats, and the best Halloween ever,” Rosenthal said. “Remember that trick-or-treat hours are 3:30 to 7:00. Hope to see you out in the neighborhood.” 

As the weekend was getting underway, , a 135,000 square foot store for children had its grand opening in the . Children were encouraged to arrive in costume Sunday and receive candy according to store manager Michelle Goldstein.

Children could also enjoy decorating pumpkins and taking their creations home according to Goldstein. 

Saturday was also all about Halloween in downtown Deerfield. Free pumpkins were available in a makeshift patch amidst the Shops of Deerfield. Children in costume went from store to store collecting treats. 

While youngsters were enjoying the trick or treating and the Halloween Hoopla Saturday, there was a unique party for special needs children at the Village Hall sponsored by . 

“This party is for children with special needs who sometimes are overwhelmed by conventional haunted houses,” said. “This is a calm, less frantic atmosphere.” 

Should anyone have more candy than they need or some sweets not to their liking, the West Deerfield Township Food Pantry is accepting donations according to .
