Deerfield Census Data: Residents Predominantly Employed, Married, White

The government can tell you how much money is made, how many years have been spent in school and a lot more in detailed U.S. Census data released last week.

What is the average income in town? How well educated is the community? How many people are married and how many are single? Not all the answers are that simple.

The median family income in Deerfield is $192,394 while more than a third of the Village’s families make more than $200,000 per year, according to data from the American Community Survey of the Census Department.

Most every adult who wants to be working has a job with an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent, less than half the national average. Nearly two-thirds are employed in management, business, science or the arts. Of those, 22.4 percent consider themselves professionals and 20.7 percent are in education or health care.

The community is very Caucasian (94 percent) with more than 90 percent of everyone born within the United States. Nearly everyone (98.2 percent) has a high school diploma while 75.1 percent have at least a bachelor’s degree from a college or university.

Deerfield’s average home is worth $545,900 and 88 percent of adults are homeowners. More than half those homes were built between 1950 and 1969 with less than 10 percent put up since 2000.

Most of those houses have at least three bedrooms (97.1 percent) with 15.6 percent containing five or more and 38.1 percent having four. More than half the households in the Village have two cars and 16.8 percent have three or more.

Nearly 90 percent of everyone between ages 35 and 64 are married.
