Deerfield artist Marylou Houck had her art displayed through the month of August at the Patty Turner Center.
"Marylou says she enjoyed art class in high school and later as well at various other classes at Elgin Community College, Northern Illinois University and the Art Institute of Chicago," said David Shamrock, Patty Turner Center manager.
Pet portraits are her specialty.
"It was her love of all things ‘animal’ that prompted her to do Pet Portraits, first from the collection of photos taken of her own pets, then from clients’ photos of their pets for commissioned portrait work. To date, these pet portraits have gone all over the United States,” Shamrock said.
Houck paints landscapes as well, and her works include pencil, charcoal, pastel and watercolor. Proceeds from the sale of her works of art benefit pet rescue, according to Shamrock.
