Patch Editor Role Plays at Model Congress

Organizers wanted students to know what it was like to be questioned by the media. We did our best to accommodate.

What does a Patch editor do on the weekend when he has some free time?

Among other things, I combined work with helping high school students attending Rep. Robert Dold’s (R-Kenilworth) model congress Saturday at Stevenson High School.

My brief role at the model congress was being myself. I was asking questions of the students elected to party leadership so they could learn what it was like to deal with the media. I was urged by Dold’s staff to challenge them. I tried my best.

All students I encountered were impressive.

As for work, tomorrow there will be a story about five Deerfield High School Students –Graham Ambrose, Samantha Soloway, Elayna Shanker, Lauren Klein and Sammy Cohen—who attended. You will learn what they made the event special for them.

Not all of them are newcomers to politics and government. Ambrose is an intern with Deerfield’s Brad Schneider, Dold’s Democratic opponent in the Nov. 6 election. Cohen works for Dold. They are good friends.
