Huh?? "Pre-salting"??? Will the snow accumulation have a chance to surpass the amount of salt which has been dumped onto bare pavements (and parkways) so far this winter.

I appreciate the snow removal efforts in the Village. They do tend to over salt, particularly at residential street intersections.

I'd rather too much salt than to skid into another car. I think the village does a great job! Boy, did we luck out when we bought a house in Deerfield.

Good driving habits have more to do with accident and skid prevention than salt. Just slow down, use your lower gears, don't tailgate, stay off the phone and pay attention. Actually, the local streets and main arterial were in their worst condition of the day during afternoon rush, and I can't help but think that the heavy salting before the storm only makes for more treacherous icing as snow accumulates when temps are falling.

Pre-salting is done to prevent an icy layer at the road surface so the snow doesn't bond with the pavement and is easier to plow. Avoids black ice formation when temps are near freezing also. Unfortunately what you end up with is that melange of snow, slush and salt which is very slippery. I prefer native packed snow on a road to the salted variety. A little sand goes a long way once the snow is packed. But then, I'm not talking about expressways and arterial streets.

There is nothing historical about this house. The historical house was torn down in order to buildRead More a modern house which vaguely resembles the home that was owned by Lyman Wilmot. But calling this new construction "an important part of the history of Deerfield" is a travesty.

Mara, So sorry you feel this way. We feel that this really improves the neighborhood. Tried toRead More keep much of old structure, but Igor's rehab and lack of upkeep, made it impossible. couldn't even keep floors, all warped from water and walls full of mold. City did nothing to stop Igor from combining two distinct properties. I am having a champagne lunch Wed. June 19, 11:30 to 1:30. Would love for you to come and see the house. Maybe that will change your mind. Annette Kalcheim

Annette - my first statement was "beautiful house" so I have no qualms with your outcome -Read More however, this is a re-do, re-creation not the original house. But good luck! I am sure you will find a buyer quickly!
