Trax 8-Layer Cake Offers Chocolate Fix

Deerfield restaurant has one of the North Shore’s unique desserts.

Chocolate lovers seeking a unique dessert need look no further than Deerfield’s Trax Tavern & Grill for its eight-layer cake.

The eight layer creation, which measures over a foot tall, is designed to serve three to four people but on occasion has satisfied one eater, according to Trax Manager Robbie Cohn. “We have a group that comes in here once a month and four of them order their own piece,” he said. At least two of them finish it in one setting. A piece costs $13.

Trax first got the idea for the cake with chocolate icing between each layer and chips on the edge a few years ago when “big” was the rage, according to Cohn.

“A lot of restaurants in Chicago were doing it,” Cohn said. “We were the first to do it out here (in the suburbs). We wanted to do something no one else was doing.” The cake is made for Trax by Cookie Dough Creations in Naperville.

One local engaged couple became very fond of this particular cake. They decided to share it with their guests this past summer. “They ordered four for their wedding,” Cohn said.

There is nothing historical about this house. The historical house was torn down in order to buildRead More a modern house which vaguely resembles the home that was owned by Lyman Wilmot. But calling this new construction "an important part of the history of Deerfield" is a travesty.

Mara, So sorry you feel this way. We feel that this really improves the neighborhood. Tried toRead More keep much of old structure, but Igor's rehab and lack of upkeep, made it impossible. couldn't even keep floors, all warped from water and walls full of mold. City did nothing to stop Igor from combining two distinct properties. I am having a champagne lunch Wed. June 19, 11:30 to 1:30. Would love for you to come and see the house. Maybe that will change your mind. Annette Kalcheim

Annette - my first statement was "beautiful house" so I have no qualms with your outcome -Read More however, this is a re-do, re-creation not the original house. But good luck! I am sure you will find a buyer quickly!
