Patch captures story time with Deerfield's mayor.

Kids at enjoyed story time with Deerfield’s Mayor Harriet Rosenthal Monday morning.

The Week of the Young Child, an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, kicked off on Sunday and will run until Friday.

According to staff at Bright Horizons, “The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.”

Mayor Rosenthal was in attendance Monday to support their efforts and kids seemed to thoroughly enjoy her visit.

“I visited Costa Rica,” one child shouted after the mayor finished reading one of her stories. “And ate at the Rainforest Café.” Other students were equally as excited to tell the mayor about their travels.
