Deerfield To Celebrate Veterans Day

Traditional ceremony at Jewett Park will be followed by a visit to Gidwitz Place for Assisted Living.

Deerfield will honor its military veterans with its annual Veterans Day observation at 11 a.m. Sunday by the flagpole at the southwest corner of Jewett Park sponsored by the American Legion Post 738.

A highlight of the ceremony will be a talk by Joe Pugiliese, a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea, describing his recent trip to Washington, D.C., where he was one of 90 people to visit the nation’s memorials on the Capitol Mall for World War II, Korea and Viet Nam.

After the Cub Scouts lead the Pledge of Allegiance, American Legion Post Commander John Coughenour will preside over the event. Mayor Harriet Rosenthal, Women’s Auxiliary President Joann Harrison and Frank Haney of the Sons of the American Legion will participate. Post Chaplain Floyd Sutton will offer a prayer.
