Art Fest Adds Street Dance Saturday

Annual Festival of Fine Arts will add a street dance Saturday night.

Deerfield’s 11th annual Festival of Fine Art will offer a party for all of Deerfield from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday night in addition to the usual display of work from 100 artists from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday on Park Avenue near the Deerfield Road train station.

In addition to the Village’s usual weekend of art, food and music, The Deerfield Bannockburn Riverwoods Chamber of Commerce has arranged Dancing in the Streets featuring Shirley King, the daughter of B.B. King.

The street dance kicks off at when the artists’ booths close at 5 p.m. Saturday with the big band sound of Deerfield’s Bob Gand before the Blue Road Band and King take the stage. The music is free with food sold by Trax Tavern and Grill, DC Sarnies and Demetri’s. The eateries will also be offering beer and wine.

Artists representing media including painting, photography, jewelry, fiber, sculpture, mixed media and ceramics from 18 states including Arizona and California will be on display.

This year’s featured artist is Prince Duncan-Williams, a fiber artist from Ghana, now living in Nevada. He combines African and American culture in silk creations, inspired by jazz music, Picasso, native art, rhythm and harmony. Prince was awarded Best of Show last year.

There will also be a variety of music during the art show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday including the Aaron Koppel Trio, Kraig Kenning, Nicole Garza, Patchouli, Classical Oasis and Edgar Gabriel’s Street Fusion.
