DHS Students Perform ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’

Student performance opens Wednesday and runs through Saturday.

“Dancing at Lughnasa,” a 1990 play by Brian Friel, will be performed by a troupe of Deerfield High School students at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday in the Studio Theater.

The performance is the second student production of the fall. Set in 1936, it is the story of Michael, a fatherless child in Donegal, Ireland, who lived with his mother and four aunts who live a meager existence barely able to keep food on the table, according to a news release from Township High School District 113.

As the story progresses the five Mundy sisters “surround Michael with love, support and challenge each other, and in the midst of poverty and their own sorrow, father about the family’s first wireless radio,” according to the release.

The cast includes Ari Brown, Kira Hattenbach, Rachel Sherman, Eleanore Fellerhoff, Casey Anderson, Emily Sheridan, Harrison Chaodash, Jacob Taitel, Lauren Eiden, Mady Frischer, Kat Culbertson, Amelia Berger, Cassidy Klein and Emma Meyerhoff.

Tickets are $7.
