Vehicle Hits Woman in Downtown Highland Park

Saturday collision involved vehicle hitting pedestrian on Second Street.

(Update Sunday at 2:00 p.m.) An unidentified woman was struck by a vehicle Saturday evening on Second Street between Central Avenue and Elm Place, according to a witness on the scene. Her condition remains unknown.

Patch is unable to learn the status of the woman who was transported to Evanston Hospital by ambulance, according to a Highland Park Police officer on the scene.

“My daughter and I were walking out of Michael's and we heard a car screeching and a loud thud,” Amy Levy said. “We turned and saw a woman lying in the street and a car stopped in the middle of the road.”

Levy immediately called 911 and walked to the scene with her daughter. Another man was also there on the phone with 911, according to Levy. The 911 operator was instructing the man what questions to ask the victim.

“There was very little movement of her lips,” Levy said. “Her body was barely moving.” Levy described the driver as “distraught” saying he reported not seeing the victim. Another woman was at the scene holding the victim’s hand, according to Levy.

(Earlier at 6:30 p.m. Saturday) One person was transported to Evanston Hospital after being injured in a traffic collision today on Second Street, according to a Highland Park Police officer on the scene.

The crash occurred on Second Street between Central Avenue and Elm Place.
