Deerfield-Based Wedeal Comes Under Fire

Customers and merchants say the North Shore discount deals company has gone AWOL.

Wedeal.com, the Deerfield-based online coupon company, has failed to pay participating merchants money owed them and left customers with unusable coupons, according to a column last week by the Chicago Tribune’s Problem Solver.

The column, published Feb. 6, said the Problem Solver had been “inundated with complaints,” including a Winnetka business owner who said Wedeals owed her $4,500. The article says people either weren’t getting a response from Wedeals or got a voicemail box that was full, and the website itself wasn’t operational.

One reader posted on Patch recently saying she couldn’t get through to anyone at Wedeals either.

Wedeal’s site was not working Monday night. It’s Facebook page was very active Feb. 6 and 7, with multiple posts from the company addressing the complaints. One post says that the site was only temporarily down “due to a series of persistent technical issues.” On Feb. 7 a post said the site would be back up that day, although comments in the days after from customers said it had not yet returned.

One woman wrote, “Feb. 9th~ Still NOT up~ Also why is the phone not working either? My WeDeal did NOT work yesterday~ Getting concerned!!!”

A Wedeals post on the page says the company will honor all coupons and merchant payments.
