Fannie May To Return to Deerfield

Well known Chicago candy store will open shop downtown by late summer.

Fannie May plans to open a candy store in downtown Deerfield late this summer, according to Village officials, returning to the Village since it moved out of Deerbrook Mall a number of years ago.

The shop will be located in the Deerfield Village Centre at the southeast corner of Waukegan and Deerfield Roads, according to shopping center Property Manager Tara Hansen. Remodeling of the space is currently underway.

With a long history in the Chicago area, Fannie May has already started the approval process with Deerfield. The company is working on getting its signs approved by the Appearance Review Commission, according to Village Planner Jeanne Spagnoli.

Immediately to the west of Fannie May will be a yogurt store. That business is not as far along in the regulatory process, according to Spagnoli. It hopes to have outdoor seating to the south of it entrance, according to Hansen.

The addition of Fannie May and the yogurt store are part of a continued increase in leasing activity for the shopping center. Bobby’s Deerfield opened in October and Seta Salon moved there from Deerbrook in April.

“The traffic and activity around here is phenomenal,” Hanson said of the new activity. “This is a good location and people are enjoying the outdoor activity.” Bobby’s, Starbuck and Chipotle all have outside seating.
