Friday the 13th is allegedly an unlucky day, but if you love French fries, today is your lucky day.

Today, July 13, is National French Fry Day!

According to , "the average American eats about 29 pounds of fries annually, an impressive statistic that proves their popularity."

Tom & Eddie's, which is , provided this historical insight in a recent announcement on Deerfield Patch.

"French fries did not originate in France as the name implies but in Belgium during the 1600′s," the announcement said. "The term 'French fries' was coined in World War I by American soldiers who were introduced to them in Belgium. They should be called 'Belgium fries,' right? They were so named because Belgians speak French."

While will not be giving away any French Fries today, the restaurant's manager promises they will be delicious.

Does anyone else still miss Wood Fire? I stiil have not found a viable replacement...plz help with suggestions. Any solid food suggestions. Someone sent me to Poeta's in Highwood....AMAZING. I am relatively new to area so assume I know nothing. Tak.

As the editor, I cannot give suggestions about places to go. So, everyone, let's help Wang out and give him ideas for the places around that most resemble Woodfire.

Maybe a National Free Blood Pressure check day would be more meaningful. But, then again, a non political statement that has anything to do with free healthcare will probably be met with a pants on fire response from certain individuals on these boards. So, I'm wrong. Free Blood Pressure Checks would be horrible for this Country and a true sign of the socialist society we are becoming under President Obama. Go get your free French Fries....eat your heart out!
