Heinen's Fine Foods Replacing Bannockburn Dominick’s

The Ohio chain, which has a store in Barrington, will move into Dominick's space in Bannockburn Green.

Heinen's Fine Foods announced this week that it will take over the 62,000-square-foot Dominick’s space in the Bannockburn Green shopping center, according to The Daily Herald. An opening date has not yet been set.

The chain has 17 stores in Ohio, where it was founded in 1929, and is planning to open a store in Glenview this spring. It’s Barrington store opened two years ago, according to the Herald.

Neil Rigler, an English teacher at Deerfield High School, told Patch that everyone’s talking about the news at school.

“Some people are even wanting to go out to Barrington to look at the other location to get a preview of what we are in for!,” he wrote to Patch.

Patch asked readers last fall what store they would like to see replace Dominick’s.

More than 75 percent of the people who joined a discussion on Patch’s Highland Park and Deerfield Facebook pages want to see Mariano’s take its place. Others mentioned Trader Joe’s, Fresh Market and Caputo’s. The feelings for Mariano’s were strong.

Mariano’s, Whole Foods and other, smaller chains have taken over many of the other stores Dominick’s vacated late last year.
